Hackathon to awaken the entrepreneurial spirit in teenagers

26/08/16

Until 31 August, high school students can enter the competition for innovative solutions for a smarter and more inclusive city.
Reading time: 2 minutes

On this occasion, Hackathon will be held on 8 September, with the support of the Municipality of Montevideo, an activity for teenagers, who will work for a whole day - from 9 am to 6 pm - to create innovative solutions for a smarter and more inclusive city. The areas will be mobility, environmental quality and hygiene and coexistence.

The objectives of this first edition of Hackathon will be to strengthen gender equality by working in mixed teams from an early age -where women's disinterest as creators of technology is generated-; to promote the confidence of women in diverse work teams, to develop skills for the future: to make a first approach to technological projects through methodology, workshops, talks, etc. and for young people to get involved in local problems and look for solutions.

The prizes for the first place will consist of Coderhouse courses, English scholarships from Uruguay XXI, a trophy printed by Sinergia Tech using 3D printing and recycled materials, 3D printed medals, a one-month membership at Sinergia Tech to develop the prototype, GIT merchandising and a certificate. Second place will be awarded with Jansport backpacks and GIT merchandising.

Do I need to know how to programme?

To participate in Hackathon it is not necessary to know how to program. There will be important support from mentors who will provide the necessary tools to carry out the presentation of the solutions worked on by their respective teams.

On the other hand, Fernanda Ferreira and Federico Martino from Inzol will present a business case related to SmartCities and will give a prototyping workshop, Daniel Goldman from Innmentor will be in charge of the pitch workshop and Magela Giorgi from Teo y la Maquina de ideas will collaborate as a mentor helping the teams in the communication and creativity of their ideas. In addition, workshop leaders and volunteers related to technology, smartcities and entrepreneurship will be available during the event for group consultations.

Teams wishing to register can do so until 31 August by filling in a form via the following link.
