Ever heard of "artificial intelligence" (AI) - machines and programs that learn and can solve problems?

Although we may not realize it, AI is in front of our eyes every day when we tag or link to people on social networks, or when we click on suggestions made by YouTube or Netflix. But, in reality, it has countless applications, for example in economics, medicine and engineering.

And now that I tell you this, you may think that the mastery of this technology is the exclusive patrimony of developed countries, where innovation is at the forefront. Well, it turns out that it is not. Right here, in Uruguay, we have been working in this area for decades, several companies export their creations and some of them even export them to Silicon Valley, no less. And the potential is enormous.

This is the theme of the second edition of En Perspectiva's La Mesa TIC. We address it with four guests who have long experience in this sector: Martín Alcalá, telecommunications and electronics engineer, CEO of Tryolabs, a company that specializes in artificial intelligence software technologies, applied to internet platforms and co-founder of MonkeyLearn, a platform focused on automatic text processing and analysis; Álvaro Pardo, electrical engineer, dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technologies at the Catholic University, founding partner of Digital Sense Technologies, a company specializing in signal processing applications, multimedia, computer vision and mathematics applied to industrial problem solving; Gastón Milano, systems engineer, manager of the research and development team at Genexus, a software development platform for the maintenance of business programs and databases; Sebastián García Parra, computer engineer, professor at the Universidad de la República, director and co-founder of IDATHA, a firm that helps companies and individuals to collect, organize and explore data to make smarter decisions.
