The Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Carolina Cosse, visited yesterday the Facebook offices in the United States, together with a delegation from the area of information and communication technologies (ICT), as part of Mission USA 2017.

Representatives of Uruguay XXI, Antel, Anep, the University of the Republic (UdelaR), the Centre for Technical Professional Education (CETP-UTU), the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII), the National Institute for Employment and Vocational Training (Inefop), the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (CUTI), the Chamber of the Digital Economy of Uruguay (CEDU), the Science and Technology Park of Pando (PCTP) and LATU are participating in the mission.

Cosse met on Tuesday with authorities from Apple and Google. Speaking to Radio Sarandí, she said that the visit to the facilities of the company founded by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak was "really very nice" and that she told the company representatives about some of the policies that Uruguay has carried out, such as the change of the energy matrix, the Ceibal Plan and Ibirapitá (distribution of tablets among retirees), and the "mature" software industry that the country has.

Yesterday, a visit was also made to the telecommunications company Cisco. There, the minister announced the signing of an agreement with the US company for the training of UTU students under the Cisco Networking Academy programme. "We are going to start working to bring it to UTU, we are going to start in some centres," said Cosse.

A visit to the headquarters of the consulting firm Deloitte will take place today.
