The Technicatura in Information Technologies coordinated by the Universidad Tecnológica (UTEC) operates in the city of Durazno, with 130 students in their first and second year. The counselor Rodolfo Silveira explained that in 2017 the offer will be extended to Fray Bentos, so the number of students would total 200 in this discipline. According to him, the courses facilitate job placement with a dropout rate of less than 10%.

The directive of the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technologies (CUTI) received Antel's board of directors, in order to present the lines of action of the industry and explore possibilities of joint work.

In this context, the Counselor of the Technological University (UTEC), Rodolfo Silveira, explained to the Secretariat of Communication the training options that UTEC offers in the field of communication technologies.

In this regard, he mentioned that the Technicatura in Information Technology is operating in Durazno, with 130 students, some of whom have already completed the first grade. The institution plans to open next year a quota of 100 students in Durazno and 100 in the Regional Technological Institute of Fray Bentos.

In this sense, Silveira pointed out that, being a career located far from the capital of the country, the greatest difficulty is to get teaching staff, so he considered that an agreement with CUTI to access teaching hours provided by engineers or technicians who work in the area would be very important.

The official indicated that this career, in direct costs for UTEC, not counting initial investments, involves approximately 2,000 dollars per year and per student; and that these costs decrease as the number of students increases.

He also appreciated that, to the extent that CUTI supports, it would be possible to increase the supply of places, since the demand for courses is very high: in 2015 the enrollment reached 300 students for 100 places.

Silveira also emphasized that in this training, which is developed in blended learning, there is a very low dropout rate, with values below 10% of the total number of enrolled students.
