Authorities from the Municipality of Juan Lacaze and the Technological University (UTEC) met in Montevideo to discuss the possibility of opening a degree in Information Technology, La Diaria reported this morning. The decision is being studied and there will be a decision in February, says the newspaper.
Utec councillor Rodolfo Silveira told La Diaria that they are thinking of a career where there are between 40 and 50 interested students. The university would be located in a hall of the Juan Lacaze high school.
Utec's other possibility is to set up in the premises where the Don Bosco Workshops used to operate, opposite the city's central square, but this alternative requires an intervention at the building level, so it would not be available by August. Silveira added that the initiative to set up in Juan Lacaze "not only responds to the needs of Lacaze residents, but is intended to be a regional educational offer".
